About Manda

Naturally open and upbeat, Amanda (often called ‘Manda’) is approachable and a good listener, as well as patient and genuinely interested in people.

Amanda has always been committed to helping people to help themselves progress. At school, Amanda mentored children with learning challenges and worked in a community centre in a poverty stricken area. By the time Amanda started at college, she was running a clothes business and had raised thousands of pounds for children’s charities. Following successful completion of her LLB law degree, Amanda was recommended to attend the Master’s of European Legal Studies programme. Alongside taught subjects with additional languages, Amanda completed a thesis and was the only person who successfully completed the course at that time.

Amanda then worked voluntarily at the regional Citizen’s Advice Bureau, where she became a Director within a year and trained as an Employment Rights Officer. Amanda achieved a Very Competent in her BVC (the professional course to become a Barrister) and was subsequently awarded a dispensation by the Bar Council for her legal experience, completing her legal qualification early. Amanda was lucky enough to be offered Tenancy immediately and has been working as a Barrister since. Amanda’s cases have involved complex matters, highly emotive issues and high value awards.

Amanda is regulated by the Bar Standards Board and insured by Bar Mutual.

Exploring solutions, finding resolution.

Mediation With Manda

While the process will naturally have some structure and formality, for example it might feel like a business meeting, the mediation will be conducted to reflect the needs of the participants. This will mean that the mediation will be adapted to suit what is required, for example progress and resolution, and will be less formal at times to facilitate communication.

Structure, approach and needs of participants can be discussed before the mediation and an explanation of what to expect (an overview) can be provided to assist.

Services

Amanda accepts bookings for half day and full day mediation. Amanda does not accept 60 or 90 minute mediations as she prefers participants to have the benefit of time.

Time pressures, in Amanda’s opinion, can increase stress upon participants. Amanda will consider 3 hour bookings, where suitable.

Mediation times

3 hour mediation by agreement

Half day /4 hour mediation

Full day /8 hour mediation

Costs

3 hours starts at £1,000 inclusive of VAT

Half day mediation (4 hours) starts at £1,100 inclusive of VAT

There is no hidden or additional cost and Amanda supplies clean notebooks, pens and calculators for use by participants during mediation.

I came to know Amanda in the last century when I taught her Civil Litigation on her Bar Vocational Course. From the start she was obviously well suited for this profession, and it has been a delight to have worked together in the courts and tribunals. Amanda particularly impresses me with the thoroughness of preparation, always seeking resolution that is best for the client.

I have known Amanda as a barrister and as an opponent in Employment Tribunal litigation for over 10 years. She has the skillset you need for successful mediation. She is quick on the uptake, she will hone in on the key issues, she is perceptive and, unlike a lot of lawyers, she has a high level of emotional intelligence.
